China Mobile Selects Azalea Networks to Provide Wi-Fi Access to Millions of Customers in Major Chinese Cities

Wireless solution part of 100,000 access point network
to provide high-speed broadband services
Beijing, China, and Milpitas, California – November 4, 2009 – Azalea Networks, a leading innovator in wireless network equipment and technology, today announced that the company has been selected by China Mobile, operator of the world’s largest mobile network and subscriber base, to install a wireless LAN (local area network) in major metropolitan areas throughout China. Azalea’s access points will be part of a network to provide broadband Wi-Fi services to millions of China Mobile’s 450 million subscribers.
Wireless customers, including consumers and businesses alike, will benefit from the high-speed wireless technology provided by Azalea. “With the ever-increasing demand for voice, data, and even video over handheld devices, it is imperative that China Mobile respond to meet these needs of our customers,” stated Renqing Chen, general manager of Azalea China. “Azalea has provided a proven solution for several wireless city deployments throughout China. Major telecom companies have come to rely on Azalea for high performance scalability as they seek to grow through improved services,” he added.
Azalea’s technology will provide a large part of the networks deployed throughout eight cities in China, all predominantly served by China Mobile. Azalea’s solution was chosen after undergoing a stringent selection process that included Cisco Systems and Datang Telecom. The Azalea products used in the network are part of Azalea’s ongoing technological innovation that includes a new MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) 802.11n product offering unprecedented transmission speeds. The new Azalea 802.11n product will be available next quarter.
